Written by: Maria Allerton and Toni Chambers ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition. It is frequently diagnosed in children, but more adults are now receiving diagnoses of ADHD. It affects around one in 20 Australians, that’s about a million people, but as ADHD becomes more common, people are looking to nutrition and diet solutions and the root cause rather than medication. You will find that ADHD is more commonly diagnosed in males than females and in childhood when attendance at school highlights difficulties, including physical restlessness, inability to concentrate and short attention span?1 Although I haven’t sought a formal diagnosis of ADHD for myself, over the past few years, I’ve noticed the signs and symptoms emerge daily and have looked back at my childhood. Children today are often struggling with health challenges at a rate never seen before, often caused or amplified by 3 things: Poor nutrition, Toxicity and Gut Imbalances. I used to post the latest statistics in my blogs and social media about the most recently calculated rates of Autism, learning disorders, asthma and eczema etc but to be honest there is now no point posting these stats because we ALL know kids who have health challenges. Sadly, they are now so common! Why the epidemic of childhood health issues? There are many factors that come into play that are driving the health issues our children face today. In clinic we see a lot with nutrition deficiencies that are the root cause of the child's health issues such as children who

IBS is not a disease in and of itself. It is a collection of symptoms caused by other health factors. Other factors are often overlooked or not looked into at all. They often leave you with symptom relief but no solutions to address the cause of the digestive distress! But there is no need to live with the throws of IBS long-term. Chances are you have done some basic tests or even an endoscopy and or colonoscopy to only be told you have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and just to avoid your 'trigger foods'. Maybe you've been told you have 'leaky gut'. Perhaps it's SIBO. Maybe it's stress or 'all in your head'. I adopt the strategy of 'Test, don't guess' when it comes to your gut health. This is a far more reliable approach, and I honestly believe it's essential. Gut microbiome testing This is the missing piece to resolving gut health and many other issues. Understanding your gut

This question is so pervasive today and seems to be almost un-answerable. There are many diverse philosophies when it comes to a dietary strategy and each one claims to be the best. From paleo to vegan, low carb high fat, vegetarian, fodmaps, weight watchers, blood type, ketogenic, gluten free, the list goes on and on.

In our world we do things fast. No time to stop to eat, so we eat in the car. Pressure to multi-task: so we eat whilst working. Nobody to eat with: so we eat whilst watching TV. Fast lives don't work well with our human digestive system: it needs things to be done slooooowly. Our digestive system works on the 'rest and digest' mode of the nervous system, whilst many of us are spending way too long in the 'fight and flight' mode during pretty much the entire day. What's wrong with rushed eating? Not enough time for the brain to start thinking about food. Our digestion starts in the brain: thinking about food, smelling food, salivating about food. This is actually how it's supposed to work! Cooking your own meal helps enormously
